Area Description

Superb views of the mountains and crystal clear sea mark the entrance to Kas. Travelling eastwards from Kalkan you will drive along one of the most dramatic & beautiful coastal roads in the Mediterranean. Kas is built on the site of ancient Antiphellos which began to develop in Hellenistic times & by the Roman period was the leading port in the region, known for its sponge & wool trade. Kas is approximately 5 klm from the apartments. It has style and is a friendly & laid back resort with a slightly bohemian atmosphere as a result of an influx of designers and artisans. As a centre for arts, crafts, jewelry, textiles and antiques it has some of the best shops on this part of Turkeys Mediterranean coast. There are many resturants,harbour side cafe's and bars which all serve traditional Turkish and European dishes at very reasonable prices. Roof top resturants with panoramic night views over the harbour and the town are just some of the supprises and charm that Kas has to offer. It has four super markets, two butchers, many fresh fruit and veg stalls, and several fresh fish shops to choose from. Three banks, post office, and hospital with English speaking doctors. There is a weekly Bazaar on friday where everything is very cheap including spices,herbs,cheeses & local produce brought down from the mountains. Kas has an excellent selection of small boutiques & shops selling designer garments. bags and traditional arts and crafts including,carpets,kilums and textiles from many parts of Turkey. Activities include, Scuba Diving, Sailing, Para-gliding, white water rafting, swimming with dolphins & whales, Jeep safaries, walking and endless historic sites to visit. Kas even has its own Amphitheatre enroute to the Peninsula.
